The arch framing is complete! I think I now understand why people go with new as opposed to trying to save the old–reconstructing the old “backwards” takes twice the effort. When this arch was originally framed 100 years ago, the side studs were already there and they simply filled in the opening with the 2×12 framing. Then the trim was fit to the opening. In my case, I had the 2x12s as the starting point and everything had to work backwards.

But, it’s done and more junk (framing and trim) will be removed from storage in the basement. Just in time to store something else, no doubt…
